Announcing the first Catholic Worker Athenaeum event. December 5th: A discussion on The Mystery of Death by Adrienne von Speyr
Hi Everyone! I am so happy to be able to announce our first Catholic Worker Athenaeum event. As the title indicates we will be focusing on The Mystery of Death by Adrienne von Speyr. A link is below to Ignatius Press if you want to order the book before attending. It is a small but profound text that hopefully will guide us into some deep waters! The discussion will be moderated by my dear friend, Marcus Daly, who makes simple wooden caskets with a Divine Mercy Theme. Check out his webpage at https://www.mariancaskets.com. Marcus is far more than a maker of caskets. He is also a devout Catholic who has his own unique theological vision. And here is the link for the book: https://ignatius.com/the-mystery-of-death-mdp/?searchuuid=b2a7e728-7942-484f-a955-9250fc14b0b9&search_query=The+mystery+of+death
December 5th is a Saturday and the event will officially begin at 10:00 AM. However, coffee, tea, juice, various pastries/fruits/yogurt, and smoked salmon will be available beginning at 8:00 AM for anyone who can make it here that early. Lunch and dinner will also be served with menu yet to be determined. And for those who might be traveling here from a distance, we do have five extra beds in the house for anyone who might want to arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday. There are also local hotels that can be easily found online. The event is totally free of charge due to a generous donation that has already been given, and I do hope many can make it. It will be a great way to begin Advent! And for those staying until Sunday we will be attending the solemn high Mass at our Ordinariate parish, St. Thomas More (https://stmscranton.org) at 10:00 AM.
The address to our house is: 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton PA 18510. If you want to attend please email me at: Larrychapp@icloud.com. We want to limit this to around 20-25 people so email soon if you want a spot!
Looking forward to seeing all of you!
Cheers
Larry
